San Fernando was once a barrio in the town of Milaor until 1813 when it was created as an independent parish. The first administrators of the parish were religious missionaries.
Originally, this town was situated in the present barrio of Beberon which is about three kilometers south of the present site of the poblacion. Near the barrio is a river called Cadlan. The inhabitants built their homes along the bank of the river and called the place "Mayaopayaoan". When they established their community more firmly, they built a chapel for their patron saint.
It is several strong men were commissioned to carry the image of San Fernando to this chapel but no matter how much they tried, they could not lift the image. The old people then called some children to carry the image and the children did so with the least effort.
The following morning, when the people went to the chapel for their prayers, they were surprised to find out that the statue had disappeared. Shortly, someone from the barrio of Beberon came, and informed the people that the statue was back to its place in Beberon.
The teniente del barrio, together with the barrio people, then decided to install instead the image of Saint John the Baptist. That is the reason why today even if the town is named after San Fernando, the parish patron saint is Saint John the Baptist.
When the new town was erected the people decided to call it San Fernando in honor of their original patron saint.
